I think you are framing this too much in terms of individual differences, in which case your point would be quite strong. Her argument isn't so much the cause of individual differences, but rather the nature of cognitive processes themselves, which you wouldn't really expect them to vary in the same way that individual differences do (personality, IQ, etc).
